Refresh Monitoring reference#
This report gives a summary of all refresh activity in your tenant.
If you are looking for other report documentation, including how to access your reports, check out the Reports documentation node.
Data#
General notes#
Refreshes include successes (Status = "Completed") and failures (Status = "Failed"). These status values are preserved (i.e. we do not change "Completed" to "Successful") from the values Power BI uses internally for consistency.
We display all refresh durations in terms of decimal minutes, i.e., 30s = 0.5 minutes.
All times on this report are UTC.
Limitations#
The data include refreshes for Datasets only. Dataflows are not included.
Refresh monitoring is configured to capture the most recent scan every 15 minutes, which will include all refreshes scheduled through the Power BI UI, which is constrained to schedule a refresh no more frequently than once every 30 minutes. It is possible that rapid API-requested or manual refreshes for a dataset may cause multiple refreshes in a 15-minute window, in which case we will capture only the most recent scan in that period. Addressing this limitation is on our development backlog. If it affects you, please feel free to get in touch to discuss your use cases.
Refresh count and Avg refresh duration (min) by date)#
Metric | Chart element |
---|---|
Refresh count | Blue columns |
Left axis | |
Average refresh duration (minutes) | Yellow line |
Right axis |
Notes:
Unless filtered the metrics in this chart reflect both successes and failures.
Refresh details#
Each row represents a single refresh.
Field | Description | Note |
---|---|---|
Dataset | The name of the dataset that was refreshed | Clicking on the dataset name navigates you to the dataset details page |
Workspace | The workspace that the dataset is located in | |
Start | The time the refresh began | UTC |
End | The time the refresh finished | UTC |
Duration (Minutes) | The duration in minutes with one significant decimal place | |
Refresh Status | The success or failure status of the refresh on this row |
Filters#
Duration (Minutes)#
This slicer restricts the entire page to only refreshes of the selected duration. This is a slider slicer. You can use the large circles to adjust the range or type directly into the text boxes.
Date#
This slicer restricts the time frame considered for the whole page. This is a relative date slicer so you can use the drop downs and text box to control the time range.
Refresh Status#
This slicer allows you to filter the whole report to failures, successes, or both.
Workspace > Dataset#
This slicer allows you to filter the whole report to show refreshes for datasets in selected workspace(s) or individual dataset(s).
This is a searchable and hierarchical slicer. Search will be across both workspace and dataset names.
